SSCR Associate Director awarded CBE for contributions to social care research
Professor Jill Manthorpe, Associate Director of the NIHR School for Social Care Research, has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2022.
Jill was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to social work and social care research.
As well as being SSCR Associate Director, Jill directs the NIHR Policy Research Unit in Health and Social Care Workforce, and is social care theme lead for the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration South London. Her research spans social care and health services in the UK and internationally. Jill also has been and continues to be a Trustee for a range of voluntary sector organisations and has been a non-executive director for NHS Community, Mental Health and Primary Care Trusts. She continues to champion social work and social care research through her various roles within the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).
Jill said:
“I am very grateful to everyone who has contributed to our research, especially during the pandemic pressures. It is hugely inspiring to learn from people with a passion to make the world a better place through their work.
This award recognises the substantial investments being made by government in social care and social work research and its multiple achievements.”
Commenting on Jill’s award, Professor Martin Knapp, SSCR Director, said:
“Huge congratulations to Jill on behalf of everyone in SSCR! This is thoroughly well-deserved recognition for her considerable research, practice and strategic contributions to social care over many years. Jill’s research – and that of the teams she leads – continues to support positive developments in social work and social care policy and practice, making a difference to people’s lives.
Jill is a wonderful colleague and everyone in SSCR is delighted she has received this award.”
Many congratulations to Jill on this achievement.
