Delirium superimposed on dementia in community settings
This mixed-methods PhD project investigates the prevalence, risk factors, and outcomes of delirium superimposed on dementia (DSD) for both people with dementia and their family carers. The research is conducted in three work packages:
- A systematic review of existing literature to establish the current scope of knowledge on DSD.
- A quantitative survey with family carers to understand the recognition, management, and impact of DSD within the community.
- Qualitative interviews with family carers to explore their experiences and the impact of DSD in greater depth.
This research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of DSD in the community, its effects on patients and carers, and inform the development of improved community-based support and interventions.
