Inequalities, barriers and enablers to dementia diagnosis and support
The studentship explores inequalities in dementia pathways, particularly initial access to diagnosis as an entry point to treatment and care. Knowledge and understanding of inequalities in accessing diagnosis and support for those living with dementia requires further study to ensure more inclusive dementia services. This work aims to:
- Identify associations between dementia diagnosis and different dimensions of inequality (geographic area, deprivation, and ethnicity) across one primary care network area in Devon.
- Explore the barriers and facilitators to accessing diagnosis and support for individuals and families living in a context of deprivation who are affected by cognitive impairment.
- Identify implications for primary care and public health planning and commissioning.
