These training-based awards are open to applicants at any career stage, from practice, academia and education. The goal of this funding is to enable people to undertake training and development activities, allowing them to:
- Make transition into social care research, or
- Be a more competitive candidate for future NIHR Academy schemes, or
- Enhance their research skills to support evidence-informed practice, or
- Undertake a career pathway that’s unique to them and their research aspirations.
Applicants do not need to be based in SSCR member organisations but they need to identify an individual with strong adult social care research expertise to provide mentorship and support during their award. Each awardee will also benefit from connection to a cohort of past and present awardees, and will receive bespoke training and events coordinated by the career development team.
Our third and final round of funding opened in June 2026 with a deadline for applications on Thursday 24 September. Visit the funding webpage to read the guidance in full and download application documents.
