Mari-Liis Tamm

SSCR Research Trainee

m.tamm@sheffield.ac.uk

I am a Research Trainee in the SSCR (University of Sheffield), bringing experience as a qualified social worker across statutory and charity sectors. I have a background in statutory child protection and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children social work, and Third Sector experience of supporting survivors of human trafficking and people experiencing homelessness. Following BA in Politics and Sociology (University of Sheffield) and MSc in Social Work (University of Bristol), as well as over 6 years of experience in statutory social work, I am keen to develop my skills in applied research that strengthens evidence-based practice in social care and improves outcomes for marginalised communities.

I am currently supporting two SSCR funded projects- Enhancing Transparency, Explainability, and Consent in Technology for adults with learning disabilities (Dr Liz Croot and Dr Alice Dunning) and Navigating Neurodisability Through The Prison Gates (Dr Danica Darley).

Mari-Liis’ research interests include:

  • Migration and asylum, particularly experiences of asylum-seeking children, young adults, and trafficked women.
  • Relationships and sex-positive social work, and its integration into social care practice.
  • Experiences and wellbeing of social care workers, including workforce development.
  • Young adults and transitions from children’s to adult services.
