Project title: Modelling the demand for adult social care from adults with a learning disability

Project summary: The demand for adult social care (ASC) services is one of the greatest challenges Local Authorities (LA) and government in England face today. In order to manage spend and sufficiency of services, LAs need the data to be able to accurately predict the demand for services from people with a learning disability. Through my NIHR SSCR fully-funded PhD studentship, I aim to address this challenge by developing an alternative approach to modelling the demand for ASC services from people with a learning disability in England. The study departs from traditional methodologies by critically reflecting on the variety of ways the UK government plays a role in need satisfaction for children and adults with a learning disability, creating a multifaceted view of the interactions a person with a learning disability has with the state over their lifetime.

Anticipated completion date: March 2026

PhD supervisors: Professor Ailsa Cameron and Dr Demi Patsios
