New funding calls from NIHR Research for Social Care call
The NIHR Research for Social Care call is inviting proposals in two key areas:
Mental health
Proposals are sought to better understand and manage the social care consequences of mental health conditions.
RfSC is particularly interested in populations in Northern England where there is a social care need and which has been historically underserved by research activity. Host organisations should be based in Northern England, however collaborators outside of the North are welcome to apply.
This additional RfSC call is an important part of the Department of Health and Social Care’s ongoing interest in strengthening mental health research in less well supported areas.
The call offers researchers considerable flexibility to focus on any subject area or topic providing that it falls within this Mental Health Call remit.
Applications should be co-produced with service commissioners, providers, carers and service users wherever appropriate to better ensure findings are of immediate utility in policy and practice.
Stage 1 applications are due by 13:00 on 19 October 2021.

Dementia
Proposals are sought to improve the evidence base around social care and dementia.
This RfSC call is an important part of the Department of Health and Social Care and NIHR’s ongoing interest in strengthening dementia research in less well-supported areas, better understanding the needs of underserved populations and social care needs, as well as identifying best practice in relation to critical points, including diagnosis, hospitalisation, residential care and end-of-life care.
This call offers researchers considerable flexibility to focus on any subject area or topic providing that it falls within RfSC’s dementia remit.
Applications are expected to have strong involvement and collaboration with organisations that are responsible for delivering social care and related social care services, for example local authorities and third sector, where appropriate.
Stage 1 applications are due by 13:00 on 19 October 2021.
