Congratulations to Professor Claire Surr, from Leeds Beckett University, and Professor Geraldine Macdonald, from the University of Bristol, on being named Senior Investigators for the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). This prestigious role recognises their leadership in research and their contributions to social care.
As Senior Investigators, Professors Surr and Macdonald will work to ensure that patients, care users, carers, and the public are involved in research. They will also help build and support a skilled health research workforce and encourage collaboration with the life sciences industry. Their new roles will allow them to influence health and care research across the country, aiming to improve people’s lives.
Professor Claire Surr, who leads the Centre for Dementia Research at Leeds Beckett, said, “I’m delighted to be named a Senior Investigator. It’s an honor to be recognized for my work in dementia research. This role will give me the chance to work with others to help grow health and care research that can make a real difference to people’s lives.”
Claire’s research focuses on dementia education, improving care in social care settings, especially care homes, and improving healthcare for people with dementia.
Professor Geraldine Macdonald, from the University of Bristol, also shared her excitement: “I’m thrilled to be named a Senior Investigator. This role will help me shape the future of health and care research to meet people’s needs. I look forward to working with others to guide new research in this area.”
Geraldine’s research focuses on ageing, social care, and support for caregivers, aiming to improve care and the well-being of older adults.
Both professors will receive funding for four years to support their research while taking on leadership roles within the NIHR.
